MEE6, Dyno, Carl-bot or Sapphire: which bot to choose?

The five most-compared all-purpose bots, judged on what they do best and on what they really leave free — according to their own pages, not to hearsay.

Transparency: this guide is published by the OriusBot team, and OriusBot is part of the comparison. The other bots' offers were checked on their own pages on November 2, 2026 and change often: no price is quoted, for lack of a stable official source. Check each bot's website before deciding.

The short answer

Dyno for proven, classic moderation, Carl-bot for reaction roles and detailed logs, Sapphire for an all-rounder its developer says is entirely free, Arcane if levels are all you need, MEE6 if a subscription budget is not an issue. None of the five is built first and foremost as a security bot.

Bot by bot

MEE6

The best known, and the bot that made levels popular on Discord. Its official free vs Premium comparison (updated in June 2026) puts levels, welcome messages, reaction roles and social alerts on the Premium side. It is the most common reason servers look for a MEE6 alternative.

Dyno

A safe choice for moderation: solid automod, complete sanction commands, stability proven over many years. A subscription adds modules and higher limits. A good pick when moderation is the only need.

Carl-bot

The long-standing reference for reaction roles, with very detailed logs and decent automod. It also has a subscription; before moving a whole server, check its page for what applies to levels and to the number of reaction roles.

Sapphire

A recent all-rounder with a dashboard: moderation, welcome, reaction roles, logs, notifications. Its developer states on the bot's support page that every feature stays free and that donations unlock nothing. It is the clearest argument in this comparison.

Arcane

A levels specialist: XP, role rewards, leaderboards. Relevant if levels are the only feature you expect; it replaces neither a moderation bot nor raid protection.

Where OriusBot fits

OriusBot brings into a single bot security (anti-raid, anti-nuke, captcha, scanning of links, files and images), automatic moderation and community features: text and voice XP, welcome images, role menus, tickets, Twitch and YouTube alerts, in four languages, with no ads. Security will never sit behind a payment.

Its limits, honestly: newer than the other five, so fewer servers on the counter and less public feedback; and the depth of its settings takes some first-time configuration. The Discord security bot comparison puts it against the protection specialists.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MEE6 and Dyno?

MEE6 is first an engagement bot (levels, announcements), and its official comparison puts those features on the Premium side. Dyno is first a moderation bot, known for its automod and stability. The choice depends on what the server needs most: activity or moderation.

Is Sapphire really free?

According to its developer, yes: every feature stays free and donations unlock nothing. An offer can always change; the bot's official page is the reference.

Carl-bot or MEE6 for reaction roles?

Carl-bot is the long-standing reference for reaction roles. At MEE6, the official comparison puts them on the Premium side. For button or dropdown menus, see also the role menus guide.

Can you use several bots at the same time?

Yes, but every bot you add is one more permission to watch and one more point of failure. Two bots moderating the same channel contradict each other; one bot per job is better, or a single bot that covers everything.
